Feb, March, April '21
Good meeting, short but efficient. Even the trustees acknowledge that Deb has come into her position swinging and is working hard to make sure that things are running smoothly and getting done.
:05-First
was some discussions about some work on lead pipes being started on 3
different roads over the next few weeks? I believe this was around :05
minutes into the meeting.
-Licensing
for marijuana businesses in the township is taking a lot of time, bc
there are a lot of these types of businesses popping up
-Work
is being done on a yard/garage sale ordinance to eliminate year
long/summer long sales in residential areas. I believe you would need to
get a permit for something like this (they're free) which is obtained
at the township office.
-There
have been a number of accidents that have occured on the Columbia X
Main crossing, causing issues with the lights? Or the accidents are
caused because of the lights?
:17-There
is an ad posted for... anybody looking to help w a Chicken Ordinance?
You need to own at least an acre of land per... every 10 chickens but
they're looking to modify that to help out those living in more
residential areas?
-Rachelle
took some online courses to get more certified in her treasury position
which she has held for the last 4 years, cool, cool. Glad she's finally
getting around to that.
:35-Summer
taxes start in june, get on it! Also there is going to be a recycling
event going on soon? They'll be posting info on that shortly. you can
get cards for that at the township office.
-been
a lot of felonious activity lately, stalking, assaults, grand theft
auto. KEEP YOUR DOORS LOCKED, DON'T KEEP YOUR KEYS IN YOUR VEHICLES,
c'mon guys.
-Rick
Pererson inquired about the two properties for sale on the Michigan x
Wattles intersection... 1000ft guideline is measuring from the front
door of one building to the center of the road, then from the center of
the road to the front door of the building in question.
-Township office will be closed memorial day weekend
-Two
Farmer's Market events this month and both had a lot of activity and
there has been increasing interest in doing more of these.
---------------------
April '21 meeting
Pretty short meeting today, not a whole lot to go over.
-discussions about spending, budgets, etc.
-To get your recycle card, go to www.CalhounCountyMI.gov or visit the township treasury dept.
-been
a lot of brushfires recently, lots of stolen cars, break ins, theft.
DON'T LEAVE YOUR KEYS IN YOUR CAR, this has been the case for several
people who have had their cars broken into and, the keys being right
there, they simply take the car.
-New burn permit system in place, go to cc-fire.com to learn more about it.
--------------------------
March 25 meeting:
Super
cool, the special meeting was just opening the budget to public
comments, but there weren't any so they kinda just skipped that.
-Regular
meeting, there was a guy from... "conscious Minds" who has been working
with/living in this county for the last 4 years? Put in a bid for
40k... something about the cemetery? I'm not really sure what he was
asking about or referring to, honestly.
Edit:
watched it again, he put in a bid for lawn care at the cemetery and was
out bid but the process was convoluted & not done correctly? Not
sure who was in charge of this but they dropped the ball and did a poop
job.
-Berin
Iwlew, Cofounder of... "Bodywork"? Lives in Battle Creek but is
interested in moving into Emmett Township but was curious as to our
internet infrastructure; fiber optic cables, internet speeds, internet
access, etc.
"Internet
is the electricity of the 21st century" Totally agree with him there,
getting Emmett Township up to speed and allowing residents to have
better, cheaper access to the internet will only benefit everybody and
allow residents to maintain a greater standard of living in a world
where technology is increasing at an exponential rate.
-Robert Thall was welcomed in the meeting, he is the township's new Attorney
-township made their first payment on the road bond?
-There
have been a lot of brushfires lately, a PSA for everybody to PLEASE BE
CAREFUL and have water on hand for any fires on your property

March 11:
Cool, cool, just got done with the meeting. Some key points:
-There
was some stuff in the beginning about limiting the oversaturation of
weed stores around here, but I didn't quite hear all of that. Bit too
much, maybe put a limit on that stuff.
-Tuck
requested a monopoly on a "smokers lounge" in Emmett Charter Township,
I'm not entirely sure what these are but I'm pretty familiar with Hookah
Bars/lounges, which are basically just bars (comfortable seating, loud
music, themed lighting, TVs errwhere) but instead of alcohol it would
probably be weed or hookah pipes (maybe even weed hookah, who knows).
Idk,
monopolies in any market freak me out a bit, how much is he going to
charge? I would like to make sure he's not going to take advantage of us
if he gets first dibs.
-Deb
announced her retirement from her city job, where she's been employed
for the last 20 years. It took her 3 months instead of 2 weeks because
she had to complete an audit on a client(?) but was delayed due to
issues with Covid and meeting in person. Now she'll be Supervisor full
time, 4 days a week.
-Rick
Estilaman had an issue/question regarding wanting to get approval for
Change Order 4? Something about staying ahead of the workload and
finishing some additions on Lourim Ct. and Cornwall(?) streets before
the first week of April.
-There
are online training courses for Law Enforcement and Firefighter
careers? I was in the bathroom for most of this so I'm not so sure.
-Somebody
mentioned some obstructing bushes on Blake St which have the potential
to cause some hardcore damage, but Deb said she might need to get in
touch with... somebody else? (I forget who)
-A
reminder that the IRS will NEVER call you asking for personal
information. Account numbers, passwords, whatever. They would send an
email, don't be afraid to hang up on these callers asap.

February board meeting:
So
I'm watching the last board meeting on accessvision and I was shocked
to hear that both the Clerk and the Treasurer asked for raises. They're
asking for $61k because they want to make the same as the supervisor.
They currently make $48k .
The
township is only open four days a week and one of the board members
points out that they only work 2.5 to 3 days a week because they both
have other jobs.
You can see this starting at the 38 minute mark in the video. Why would they think
that the residents that just elected them would automatically give them
a 28% increase in pay? Pretty sus. If I could make that much money
putting in those kind of hours I might as well run for the seat myself.
I'm sure it wouldn't be hard considering these girls are ready for
something more along their preferred payscale.
