Jim Mead Recall Petition

Hello, my name is Gavin Powell. I've attended every board meeting, w the exception of one or two, for the last two years and writing summaries of each. I post those onto the township facebook page for residents to keep them informed about what's going on at the local level.

I feel I've learned a lot about local govt in doing so and would like to make an attempt to correct some of the injustice I see occurring frequently in Emmett Township.

Several instances of breaking workplace confidentiality, sharing private information about employees at a public board meeting.

During a meeting of the Emmett Township board on August 11th, 2022 it was brought to the public's attention that Trustee Jim Mead broke board confidentiality by alerting the contractor ahead of time that his services at Emmett Township would be terminated, potentially putting the staff in harm's way. Greatly overstepping Mr. Mead's authority.

During a board meeting at Emmett Township on April 14th, 2022 Trustee Jim Mead brought up personal details about an employee who had recently been fired, questioning the judgment of the township office and sharing confidential information.

Over the last two years Jim Mead has repeatedly stated his interest in saving money and reducing spending in the township. When an opportunity to display this virtue arises, however, he balks at the chance, voting against the motion.Instead, we are met w what appears to be personal grudges and baseless accusations.

During a meeting of the Emmett Township board on Sept 8th, 2022 Trustee Mead accused the township supervisor Deb Belles and coding inspector Josh Mosley of embezzlement, quoting a mileage report that was previously approved at the April 14th board meeting. The sheriffs dept investigated these claims and found no wrongdoing or cause for further investigation and closed the case.

During a board meeting at Emmett Township on August 12th, 2021 Trustee Jim Mead voted No on a proposed wage study to ensure fair payment of township employees, citing misuse of taxpayer dollars even after being informed that it's funded by the state.

Any attempt to improve the board's cohesion and make working together easier for our officials could be seen as a long-term investment, but again, we find opposition.

During a meeting of the Emmett Township board on May 12th, 2022 Trustee Mead was the only No vote on a team building session suggested to help members of the board work together better.

juhnke: *in response to Jim questioning the attorney about fine print "Those rules and regulations, Jim, are a guideline. they take a little bit of liberal interpretation in order to make the slide easy, ok? We can spend all night arguing over the words in that thing and it's of no use to us whatsoever. It doesn't gain us anything and it probably loses us a lot of time. "

  1. Make sure any claims you put forth are backed to by audio or video evidence as the board meetings should be recorded and or broadcast.

 2. Make sure any date is listed as a reference.

 3. If this was documented in the press, get a copy of the article as proof."
