It
appears we have yet another meeting overshadowed by Jim Mead and his
antics and total unwillingness to compromise or work with his board
members on anything. Some discussion about the police dept (chief's
contract will be expiring) and details regarding the state of the
township board, but otherwise this was a relatively short meeting.
Emmett's
second annual Community Clean Up Day is on June 11th, from 8:30 to
12:30. You'll need to provide proof of residency on arrival. You can
check the township website for a list of acceptable items:
Deb
felt with the board not being unanimous about the millage that we would
look at it next year and work with the staff to get some real numbers.
Deb will be asking for a millage to be put on the November ballot that
would support the pension fund for the police dept. This is how all
other municipalities handle pensions and, if it passes, we may or may
not need to ask for an increase on our operational millage.
It
appears some members of the board are more interested in halting any
progress towards our township. This isn't the first, or even the second
time he's held up meetings to complain about things outside of his
control. As a trustee, it's not his duty to concern himself with daily
operations within the township or get involved in things he has no
business, or understanding, dealing with. That is, literally, the
Supervisor's job (hence the title, somebody who supervises) Also the
only one to vote no on the team building session which was suggested to
help members of the board work together better, as without cooperation
nothing gets accomplished and the people of this township are done
dirty.
This meeting did progress in some ways, however, with the
passing of a vote to have the supervisor move forward with having the
waterman loop designed. This has been taking far too long to be dealt
with and it's a little comforting to see any headway being made in that
regard.
There were some other items voted on, body cams for the
police dept, a cemetery ordinance, a consideration to change the offices
hours back to Monday through Thursday, 7:30am to 5pm. A shorter
meeting than we've been having recently, though still longer than it
needed to be.
