sorry for the tardiness but here is a summary of the March meeting. Not a whole lot going on but some drama involving the police dept. What are your thoughts on us having 5 cops w 24/7 access to take-home vehicles using tax dollars to pay for all repairs, gas, insurance and expenses when the township has been making an earnest effort to reduce spending? Do you think Emmett Township is big enough to warrant that? Agenda - https://emmett.civicweb.net/Portal/MeetingInformation.aspx?Org=Cal&Id=206

[00:01:42] public comment Joe Harris regarding cars, response times... wanting to keep 'take home vehicles' for detectives. Not an officer, but works with law enforcement, so he's speaking in support of them.
[00:08:30] Both Jim Mead and Jim Junke vote no on monthly check register
[00:08:54] Introducing/welcoming the new treasurer, Tyler Sylveski after conducting several interviews. A very good background, associates in business and a bachelor's in Finance.
[00:17:25] public safety report
16yo jacked a car behind the township building, pretty crazy and depressing. Keep your doors locked, everybody.
[00:23:15] action item approving fiscal year? "extra money wish list"
Junke makes a comment, only voting yes if it doesn't set a precedent but these items will always come to the board.
[00:25:20] tabled issue regarding consumers lighting "Consumers Energy states approval of this resolution and authorization to change will suffice for installing the streetlight at the corner of I Drive and 11 Mile Road." more information was provided and so the motion was passed by the board.
[0:29:25] ordinance regarding number of cats/dogs per household (generally 3 dogs/5 cats per household, with an exception to puppies/kittens). Passed by all board members
[00:34:15] regarding the solar ordinance. If you're agricultural you can't turn it into a solar farm, it has to be industrial.
[00:00:41] - discussion regarding take home police cars (5 cars) I believe they are giving the OK to sell 3 of the cars? There are FIVE officers that have cars that they take home and have 24/7. The Township pays for all maintenance/and repairs, gas, and insurance for these cars. When we're trying to reduce spending in our community I feel like having 5 people who get a blank check to pay for any trips, commutes, repairs... I don't feel like Emmett is large enough or even dangerous enough to need that many officers having open access to taxpayers dollars.
[00:52:30] closed board session attorney/client memorandum until [1:04:00]
[1:05:20] public comment
